A story about life, longing and Lola Berry
In 2014, when I was smack bang in the middle of my dark 'who am I and what am I doing with my life?' moment, I went to a workshop that was a combo of yoga, plus a chat from Lola Berry.
Lola Berry is a nutritionist who has written a bunch of books and is super fun. I had a chat to her afterwards, and she signed my copy of her book.
I got in my car and stared at what she had written: Do what you love and shine! 'But I don't know what I love!' I wailed, to no-one.
Driving home that day, a thought popped into my head: Become a life coach. 'That's interesting', I said, and put the thought aside. A life coach had no relation whatsoever to publishing, and because I had invested so much time and energy in that as a career, I at least needed to continue in a similar vein, right?
Over the next six months I explored different ideas and did a million quizzes that were meant to tell me what my ideal career was.
I had a folder on my computer called 'Project Meraki'. I had come across the word, which means 'to do something with soul, creativity and love; to put yourself in your work'. Any ideas went in here.
Then one day, I realised that everything I wanted, needed and desired aligned with life coaching. The moment I let go of the need to push and force myself into what I thought I should do, and gave myself permission to do what I wanted to do was the moment everything started to fall into place.
Finally, I was doing what I loved, and I was shining (thanks Lola).
I felt my way through the dark, making it up as I went along. From that, I derived what works best when you feel like your world is crumbling and you crave the clarity and confidence you need to take the next step. How to let go of the iron grip that holds on to what you think you should be doing. How to trust yourself.
I felt my way through the dark so you don't have to. I can guide you instead.
