Pausing to Pivot

New Moon in Taurus

The movie Groundhog Day centres around a weatherman named Phil Connors, played by Bill Murray. Phil finds himself living out the same day over and over again, waking up each morning to the strains of Sonny and Cher’s I got you Babe on the radio before going about his job reporting on an annual Groundhog Day event in a small town.

At first he freaks out at his new circumstances, then he decides to have some fun by eating all the food, robbing banks and picking up pretty women. Eventually he grows tired of this and decides to learn from his experiences, to change his approach each day and do things differently.

Then one morning, he wakes up and finds he has broken the loop and finally moved onto the next day.

With this global pandemic having changed our day-to-day lives from being out in the world to being (for most) centred around home, it can feel like we are living in our own Groundhog Day. Same thing day-in, day-out. Deja-corona-vu.

It’s interesting to note that during Pisces Season (including a Mercury retrograde in Pisces) we were experiencing the freak-out part of this cycle. Information wasn’t reliable and no-one really knew what to do. So we handled it in the best way we could and stripped the supermarket shelves bare of all the toilet paper.

During Aries Season, action was taken to try and stop the spread of the virus. Social distancing was brought in and things deemed unessential closed down. Home was our place to be. While frustration at being confined was rife, this was channeled into some really creative ways to entertain ourselves and connect. We started to have fun with it. God bless the internet for all the memes.

And now we are in Taurus Season. Ah, earthy Taurus. If you have a Taurus in your life you will know that they rarely hurry, but that doesn’t mean they never get anywhere. They take their time and patiently and persistently work toward their goals.

Taurus likes to slow down and enjoy the pleasures of life.

Ruled by beautiful Venus and associated with the second house of values, money, personal possessions and self-worth, Taurus knows that good things come to those who are willing to wait to get it—it’s far better to hold out for the more expensive and better-quality chair than to settle and buy something cheaper right now. The substitute will never be good enough.

So what does this have to do with life as we know it and the connection to Groundhog Day? I’m getting there (be patient).

Everyone keeps talking about life ‘going back to normal’. But was normal life really that great? Weren’t we all time-poor and stressed about getting our work/life balance right? Didn’t we wish for life to slow down so we could just embrace doing nothing for awhile? Weren’t we harming the environment through manufacturing things to buy that we didn’t need? Yes, yes and yes.

So in that case, perhaps we shouldn’t buy the cheaper chair/rush back to our old life, and instead change our approach so we end up with the better-quality chair/life.

Three days after the New Moon (April 26) the Sun meets up with Uranus, the great changemaker, who has been disrupting the part of our charts where Taurus falls for over a year. This has the potential to bring about new information, new ideas, new circumstances. Sh*t will get shaken up.

At the same time, Mars is powering through Aquarius inviting us to work together for the good of the collective. Venus (a couple of weeks away from her retrograde) is in Gemini seeking out new ideas, conversations, connections and learning more about the people and ideas close to our homes and our hearts.

Both in air signs and with a harmonious aspect between them there is a drive to learn, innovate and connect with current loved ones (and potential new ones) in fresh ways.

And then we have Saturn in Aquarius, restricting how we socialise and helping us restructure our thoughts and ideas. In this position until it retrogrades back into Capricorn in July, it may feel like we have a strict parent breathing down our neck demanding we behave. So how can you play and create freedom within the boundaries that are set?

This New Moon is an opportunity to pause and pivot. Get grounded in your personal values. What is important to you? Why? What do you miss about your ‘old life’ and what are you happy you no longer have to deal with? Start to look at your personal resources and possessions and give attention to any finances that need a tune-up.

Think about what you want your life and the world to be like. Most importantly, tune in to how you want to feel. If an idea doesn’t feel good in your body, then it probably isn’t a good idea.

It is a time for us to plant the seeds of what we feel is important for our future. And not just for ourselves, but for the collective. And to enjoy the process as much as possible.

And if you can’t see how you can pull it all together, have a read of my post for the Taurus Full Moon in November 2019 for a reminder on why you should start even if you aren’t sure how you will finish.

Right now life may feel like a Groundhog Day, but this is an opportunity for us to learn and evolve. And one day we will wake up, and life—and you—will have changed for the better.
