Get steady, stable and make your goals stick.
What a wild and crazy few months we've had. I know I'm not alone in feeling like the energy has been sluggish, that things have been taking longer than I'd like. When things are like this, it is natural to feel frustrated and to wonder if something is really right for you.
If you feel like you have been questioning what you're doing and why, know that you're not the only one. Rather than feel frustrated, I like to see this as a time where we can get really focused on our values and desires, so we are ready to make our plans to move forward.
Creating this foundation can feel challenging when all we want to do is jump ahead and have what we want.
But think about how a house is built. If the foundations aren't stable, the structure of the house will be crooked. If you don't use the right materials when it comes time to build, it could become a fire hazard and go up in smoke.
Similarly, getting clear on our values and the 'why' behind things is important in creating a solid foundation for our goals. Take out a piece of paper and write down your core values. They could be authenticity: to be true to yourself; adventure: to create new experiences in all you do; courage: to follow your heart and be brave; pleasure, positivity, connection, trust, respect ... the list goes on.
Once you have your values you can start to weave your why around them. 'I want to travel to South America to fulfil my desire for adventure'; 'I want to learn another language so I can connect with different cultures and challenge my brain'; 'I want to look after my health as I respect myself and want to take care of my body and mind'.
You can remind yourself of the core reason behind what you're doing when you are midway through working toward your desires and things are feeling difficult. You will be more likely to reach your desired outcome because you have set up a solid foundation for yourself. Your goals will stick.
Similarly, when a situation comes up for you that you aren't sure about, you can match it up to see if it fits in with your core values. If it doesn't, then you know it's not the right thing for you.
So this week, work on your foundation. Get clear on your values—maybe even stick them up on the wall so you can see them every day. I feel like things will soon start to move ahead pretty quickly, so be one step ahead and have your foundation in place.
